A few months before she passed away in 2018 I finally met the man who sent a 70th birthday card to her the day before the big surprise celebration in 2002..after I hunted down the proper address which took 6 months! Four years ago I gave him her book (and purchased his) and took this photo to show her which brought her great joy-- He is in her book too! Both of my parents crossed paths with him separately in their extraordinary lives. And ironically enough his daughter Andrea became African Secretary for the United Church of Christ after my Dad retired. (My Dad was first Black person in the job which he started in the 1960s..) I continue to carry my parents baton proudly as their only child together. I am a child of #civilrights rights fighters an #artivist & #creativemissionary and meeting #andrewyoung was very meaningful and important to me mainly for his connection to them.
