#JackedKirby - Destroyer Duck!!! 🦆🦆🦆 The more I go back and look at the landmark creator owned series Destroyer Duck (by Kirby and writer Steve Gerber), the more blown away by it I am. Not only are the first five issues of the series filled with amazing art, but the biting satirical story really does a great job of contextualizing the struggles of the creators who were embattled in the legal wars with Marvel at the time over their creations... it’s a beauty. 🦆🦆🦆 I love Kirby’s take on Duke “Destroyer” Duck. He has many dynamic splash pages in the series... but this one is definitely a fave of mine! This is opening page of #Issue3 from June of 1983. We see Duke entangled in some sorta webs... but the best part has to be that this scene NEVER ACTUALLY HAS ANY BEARING ON THE ACTUAL STORY! 🦆🦆🦆 Even though Issue 3 picks up from the events of issue 2, this page seems to be a random splash page that segues into the actual story on page 2... which does pick up from last Issue! It’s an interesting story telling choice, but I’m glad they included this splash cause we get a full figured Duke Duck in all his glory!!! And you gotta love the guardians of the lair, a horn (like the instrument) headed jackal and a falcon bearing the face of the deadly Madea from last Issue!!! Weird and groovy Kirby fun! 🦆🦆🦆 We will be recording a podcast on this groundbreaking series soon... stay tuned!!! #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #DestroyerDuck #SteveGerber #Comic #comics #comicbook #comicbooks #80sComics #ComicsOfThe80s #independentcomics #CreatorOwnerComics https://www.instagram.com/p/ByGhxfEBtyE/?igshid=1f39ipyp41hb8
