Did you know that cheetah cubs have extra fur on their heads and backs called a mantle? The fluffy, silver-gray mane helps blend them into tall grasses and dry mounds, increasing their chances of survival from predation. However, if the cubs are discovered, a mother cheetah can go to extremes to save her young by chasing the threat away, acting as a decoy, or doing whatever else she can to avert their attention long enough for her little cubs to escape to safety.
