Inktober October 5 Prompt: Build
#inktober2017 Day 8: #crooked Back home there is this building sort of across the street from my house. People from the area will know what I’m talking about. It has an ancient Mountain Dew sign hanging from the front that groans ominously in any kind of wind storm and once upon a time there used to be a gas station/general store there. Now it has part of a post office in the bottom, while the upper apartments appear to be abandoned, and in spite of some recent renovations, it still looks like something out of Silent Hill. I am not fond of this building. Though I do enjoy it’s haunted aesthetic, it has always unsettled me. It used to be that when you walked around to the back there was this rickety looking staircase that led up to a windowless door smack in the the middle of the second story. The staircase is long gone now, but for a while only half of it had fallen down. It was fabulously creepy. When I was in high school I had a nightmare about this building. I dreamt that I was watching from my bedroom window as three kids and a dog snuck inside to explore. In the dream, the front of the building had been boarded up and I remember being told never to go near it. Suddenly the dog came running out and it was all wrong, like rabies wrong. Some people in the street shot it, and the body was burned and buried on the spot, and all manner of odd “keep evil away” rites were performed. The children never came out again. I realized I was alone and ran downstairs to secure the front and back doors of my house, but the doors had shrunk somehow and were all too small for the frames. Nothing I could do would keep the darkness that was coming out, and I knew I was doomed. Then the dream changed, and I was no longer me, but one of the children who had ventured into the derelict building. The two boys with me started to panic, as did I, and one of them disappeared. The other ran and I never saw him again. I remember blood, and screaming, and darkness, and something whispering a name that wasn’t mine, yet I had to heed it’s call. And then I awoke. #onthe8thdayofhalloween #sleeptightsuckers #pleasantdreams #ghoststory #halloween #haunted #creepydoor #nightmare #samantha_johnson_art
