Jessica's solo on tour is to All About That Bass and it's cute and all, but it's such a generic competition solo that I can't even. Here's the link: /watch?v=fMa4zAD0dWo

About the cross-training conundrum, I don't think it's that people don't want evidence of cross-training. I think it's just that when we're told a dancer hasn't cross-trained and yet they do well in multiple styles, it's really impressive. But if we find out later that they had cross-trained, then it becomes less impressive, just like no one is ever impressed at Contemporary dancers being good at multiple styles, it's just expected because of cross-training.
I guess I understand, but it also doesn't really make sense to me because cross training is necessary to do well on this show. When people don't cross-train at all (like Cyrus), people complain all day that they're the "worst ever", especially if they're a hip-hop dancer. (Because Chehon was just as hopeless in styles that weren't his own, yet he won the show. But anyway.)
I just don't get why one would feel "cheated" when the entire point of the show is to be able to do as many styles as possible.
I love Jessica and she's a great soloist, but I always got the feeling that her solos on the show were just bits of her competition solos that didn't really work in 30 second cuts. That would probably explain the excessive turning since competition solos are generally like 30%-50% turns. I generally wasn't a fan of her solos on the show. And yeah, she probably did have a couple of music clearance issues. I can't see her picking Taking Chances or I Was Here of her own free will.
I'm sure Taking Chances was not her pick because she basically said that she felt awkward using that song in an interview. I would hope the same for I Was Here since it was just an odd choice for her.
I know a lot of the people on the show choreograph their own solos, so maybe Jessica didn't want to risk it and just stuck with something she already knew? I dunno. She's just such a great dancer, so I was upset that I rarely liked her solos.
This is really random, but I think I finally figured out why Ricky's in Sail instead of Emilio. Sail is right after How It's Done which has a shit ton of makeup and costuming, so whoever was doing Sail would have to be taken out of How It's Done. Zack was fine because he didn't do much, but Emilio and Marcquet are the leads so they couldn't be taken out. I guess Ricky was their next choice. There's a video of How It's Done up and I counted 13 people when it started, but about halfway through...
Yeah, Zack said on some interview that it was because Emilio was in a hip-hop right before it or something, that he already has two other hip-hop dances on the tour (even though I'm still lost on Work being included).
...but he still should have been in Sail. @_@
Dirty Diana is Jazz simply because it uses Jazz technique rather than Contemporary technique...I don't really know another way to explain it. Dirty Diana is basically the most pure Jazz dance you can get. I wouldn't consider it Lyrical Jazz because there's not really any Ballet technique in it, and Lyrical Jazz is basically just a combination of Ballet and Jazz techniques. I hope that helped a bit??
That makes a bit of sense, but I guess I don't get what makes jazz technique and what makes contemporary technique. It...pretty much all looks the same to me, at least in that case. @_@
I'm also kind of mad that Zack got to be in When I Go. Objectively, Rudy, Ricky, or Casey would have been the best choice, but even Marcquet or Teddy would have sufficed since the choreography doesn't demand much of the guy. That would have been a great opportunity to make the alternates somewhat useful, but I guess they only really care about Zack, Tanisha, and Carly this season. I'm also surprised at the amount of dances Bridget has. Apparently they love her a lot more than they love Jacque.
I would have figured Ricky or Casey would be in When I Go...like, there are no shortage of contemporary dancers, but they put Zack in both Earth Song and When I Go. Wat. I understand that the choreographers really love Zack, but no really, wat. Even Valerie barely has anything and she was top 4!
Based on the full setlist for tour, the favoritism is super obvious among the dancers. Tanisha has more numbers than Ricky (not that I'm mad about that, but it's just weird seeing as he was the winner) and Jacque only has one number...I'm not Jacque's biggest fan, but she mad Top 6 fair and square. She deserves to have at least 3 or 4 dances. Emily and Marcquet on have one number also...why are they even there? And every single number Mandy choreographed is in the show...
I mean, I'm glad that Tanisha is dancing a lot because Tanisha, but I feel like Valerie barely has anything and Ricky should be the one with the most objectively since he won? And Jacque has NONE of her duets? Seriously? And why even take alternates if you're only going to use one? And what the hell are Seduces Me and Foolish Games and Earth Song doing there in the first place...
I just...
@_@
I've been trying to wrap my head around Earth Song being on tour all morning and I've come to the conclusion that Mandy basically had to put it on tour. I'm fairly certain she only choreographed 4 duets this entire season (Foolish Games, Seduces Me, Earth Song, and Bossa Nova Baby) and with that in mind I'm actually glad she chose Earth song over Seduces Me...but I pretty much could have done without any of Mandy's duets on tour this season, except Bossa Nova Baby.
I feel like that can't have been her decision. Mandy isn't crazy and she wouldn't randomly put all her routines on tour for no reason. Right?? I just can't explain the logic of anything going on. And who decide both Bollywood routines should be on tour? I just. Wat.
I mean Earth Song was good and all, but seriously? Over all the other dances we saw??
