Some G I R L O S!! And I’m dying over Fresh’s art as always 💖💖💖
Tresdin isn’t gonna be a major character but she’s a lot of fun when she pops up! Riki will have a run in with her near the end of the book >:3!! She’s the only girl jock because, when we first concepted the AU, Legion Commander was the only female Strength hero. NOW THAT’S CHANGED SINCE, Beadie and Valoura, but, still.
I am also, very excited for Lina’s debut, like so excited. Out of all the characters in the fic she’s had the biggest rework since we started the AU and she’s dead ass one of my favourites she’s fucking GREAT!!!
“Just feckin let yerself go like.” Mireska whirled around on the floor to the midtempo EDM, all sharp elbows and knees in her ill fitting tuxedo. Her dust coated wings fluttered wildly behind her, batting anyone that dared dance too near.
“Yer always tryna be so bloody perfect. Just be yerself.”
In a stark contrast, Lina seemed like she had been sown into her dress, glittering maroon draped elegantly around her figure. Her ginger halo was pulled into a tight bun that somehow had gone the entire evening without a single hair falling out of place.
She took a graceful step forward.
“Right Mireska,” she spoke, “Because that’s what you’re being, right?”
Mireska ran a hand through her slicked back hair, feeling Meepo’s shitty hair gel crackle under her nails. She curled her lip, the tip of her right fang bared.
“Yer damn right I am.”
Mireska swung to the side, dancing wilder. There was a thud and a yelp from some idiot she had collided with, but that was none of her concern.
Lina stepped forth once more, in a sedate dance betrayed by a fiery glint in her eyes. Her painted lips tugged upwards into a smile.
“Oh no, I think that we both know that this, all this -” In a flash Lina lunged forwards, and a jolt went through Mireska as she felt her arms snake across her sides. Her wings stiffened as Lina drew closer.
“It’s bullshit isn’t it? A bigger load of bullshit than anything I’ve done this whole year.”
Mireska tried to pull back, but the grip around her tightened. She felt her cheeks redden, mercilessly unhideable for the stupid way she had styled her hair.
“I dunno what yer-”
“All this piss off don’t care attitude…” Mireska could not help a rather embarrassing sound escape her lips as Lina’s head came to a rest at her collarbone, feeling nails lightly dig into her back. In an instant she had been transported back to all the times she had felt too tall, too weird, too strange, back to the time before she had learned to put her middle fingers up and tell the world to fuck off before it could hurt her.
“I really want to meet the person hiding behind.”
“Ngheh!” Lion bellowed from behind the DJ stand, his ears flopping over cheap wired headphones. “I told you I can’t do it! I promised the dumb council there wouldn’t be any-”
“Please!” Taro intoned, his feathers jittering as he bounced on the spot.
Lion huffed. “I said no!”
Taro leaned in. “Please?”
A pout formed on Lion’s lips, and he let out a disgruntled snort. After a long considering pause, he sighed and reached for his laptop.
Lina immediately pulled back as Caramelldansen blasted through the speakers and the room erupted into a pit of jumping, enthused dancing. Her gaze was caught for a split second by the fairy, her face beet red and her gangly frame awkwardly still among the mass.
Lina caught a cough in the palm of her hand.
“Uh. I’m sorry. That was.... Sorry.”
Mireska gave a slight shake of her head.
“Nah that was, I shouldn’ta…” she trailed off, watching as a single lock of auburn hair came loose from Lina’s bun and lightly fell down the side of her head.
