Hubert was well aware that his liege hosted forbidden power. How could he NOT have known? That power was part of what drove her cause; to prevent others suffering as she did to attain it. Edelgard herself also radiated power; her charisma, her wit, even her very bearing demonstrated that she was not one to be trifled with. 

That’s who he swore his loyalty to, after all. To the emperor who would unite all of Fodlan. 

No matter what form she took. 

He hadn’t been there to watch the procedure she’d used to cause her transformation. At the time, he was thought to have perished in the previous battle. Miraculously, Hubert awoke among the rubble of the battlefield some hours later. He hadn’t the strength to move yet; he simply lay there, vulnerable, as he waited for his stamina to return. Once he’d gathered enough strength, he employed the best warp spell he could muster. His spell took him to the emperor’s throne, where he thought she would await a report from him.

Edelgard was there, yes, but he initially didn’t recognize her. She stood twice as tall as any man, towering over him as a monster. Her red and hallowed eyes regard him for a moment, surprised by his sudden entrance. But he saw recognition in them. Despite her appearance, Edelgard retained her mind. He was sure of it. 

“Lady Edelgard,” he says, his voice hoarse with weariness. His voice is inaudible, a bare wisp of the strength and confidence he normally projected onto it. Even so, he made the effort to talk. “I will fight with you. I always will.”

He rose a hand, attempting to cast a spell, but stumbled. He was too weak, and he knew it.

“I will not stop fighting until I am well and truly dead. You have my word.”

         ‘ i can feel you staring at me, man-spawn. is there something funny about the way i eat? ‘ the carrot was held in the taguel’s hands in such a way that could be considered oddly delicate given her usual demeanor and she had been adamant about eating away from the rest of the shepherds, if only because she was tired of being ogled at. and she had heard giggles before when she let her buck teeth show.

“You didn’t and that is why I offered my advice to you, as a comrade. It is up to you to take or not. I am not forcing my opinion onto you it’s just it would be better if you stick to the plan next time. I get you are a prodigy in the art you do but you alone cannot possibly handle an ambush like that one again.”

He internally sighed before ruffling his hair, “Listen, I don’t want my comrades to die on my watch. If we are going to fight together, then we need to have each other’s back, is that alright with you, Tharja?”
