IT IS HIS BURDEN. He was the one who had let everything happen like this. He was the one who let his beloved fall to pieces. He was the one who let her destroy a person. He lied, he lied, he lied and his heart still continues to bleed even now. Was it enough to give up his everything to protect those that he loved? Was it enough? Would it ever be enough? ——— ( he fears there will soon be nothing left for him to give ). He sees himself, that part of himself, in her and he wonders if she too will collapse beneath the weight of it all. She could never understand. He would make sure she never learns the weight of the world on those too small shoulders. She tells him his heart is too big for his body, but isn’t she talking about herself? She was the one who could save them, not him. She need only concern herself with the others and so when her question follows his goodbye, he prays that this will be enough. Maybe his life will be enough.
