How do you think Logan and Victor's relationship would be if Victor stayed inverted while he was alive?

i was talking about this w/ francis and i think that if inverted victor had been written into the return of wolverine arc it would start with logan expressing MASSIVE distrust because he doesn’t know who he is and victor seems to know him completely. but there’s that element of internal conflict because he has a victor-looking person in his mind prison, and that means that this man is part of his life, right? but is he good or bad?

victor, of course, is in disbelief– is this logan? is this really him? and he thinks about how he’s been living his life trying to embody that “spirit of a wolverine” and how, shit, he hasn’t succeeded at all. if we presume inverted victor goes through the weapon X-force shit as well, then he’s already aware that no matter how much good he’s been doing, it will NEVER outweigh the pages upon pages of sins and misery and horror that he’s inflicted on the world and its people, and maybe he doesn’t deserve to be in logan’s presence to begin with

but he’s going to approach logan anyway. because this is LOGAN, this is his INSPIRATION, this is the person he’s been looking up to ever since this inversion thing started. and logan doesn’t remember anything, which means he needs help, even if that “help” is finding persephone and killing her so they can save the world from soteira’s bullshit. logan dedicated a chunk of his fucking life to believing in the part of victor that could be better– it makes sense then that victor would do the same and support logan now that he doesn’t even know who he is and has no-one in his corner. also, nobody knows more acutely than victor does what it is to be lost and alone and how easily it is to succumb to the villain inside when you are

we know from team X that they have incredible rapport, even if at the time it had been because logan was just as terrible as victor was. soule has been writing logan as a good man in return of wolverine, however, who doesn’t enjoy that all people know him for is killing? who doesn’t like that the first mission he received was a message from a dying man to kill? that this woman is asking him to save her son and kill the people who took him? these’re all the same conflicts that victor has in his inversion– is he JUST a killer? can he be MORE than a killer?

and in that sense i think they’d be able to balance each other really well as far as character development goes. return of wolverine logan is special in that his amnesia can be cured instantly if he chooses to unlock his memories himself, but he hasn’t done so. but imagine being told by all these people that you’re a killer known for killing– it makes sense that he doesn’t want to remember. that he wants to start anew. that he wants to be– maybe not a hero, necessarily, but at least someone who does more good than bad. that’s inverted victor’s whole shtick, too; he wants to start anew. he wants a clean slate.

eventually victor will tell logan the truth about him and that he did bad things, because inverted vic probably wouldn’t be able to lie to him about that what with logan’s own doubts in whether there’s any hope for him at all. he’ll tell logan that even if he was terrible at some point in his life, he will NEVER be as bad as victor was. and logan’s going to be here like “haha, what the fuck, you were bad? i mean, shit, you’re kind of annoying sometimes, but you’re the first person i met since waking up who didn’t ask me to kill anybody” and it’s just. comforting. for the both of them

PLUS victor will know firsthand what bloodlust tastes like AND he can take on the berserker in logan and calm him down. logan can remind victor whenever he has doubts that hell no, he’s not a monster, and they’re going to make it in this world and they’re going to keep doing the right things

of course logan inevitably meets the x-men who know he’s good but who still express doubts towards inverted victor, and logan’s going to vouch for him like “Hello??? He’s good to me??? If you don’t take him in then I don’t want anything to do with this team” and the x-men’ll just be “………..ok, we’ll give him a chance” (even though technically vic DID become an x-man for magneto’s team, but since warpath still Hardcore Doubts him then i’m pretty sure everyone else will lol…..)

TL;DR if they kept inverted victor and had him meet logan they should ideally be best friends at least? NOBODY would understand them more than the other, they’d be going through the same fundamental steps of character development, and it’d make sense because their fates are so hopelessly interconnected throughout all the history they have that both of their rebirths (logan’s being literal and victor’s being more spiritually/mentally inclined) ought to take an intertwined path as well. it’ll be like their team X days where victor outright protected logan and logan allowed himself to rely on him EXCEPT they wouldn’t be doing terrible things!!! they’d be doing good together!!! and it’d be beautiful tbh
