your blackhawks scarf is AMAZING! did you design it yourself?? if so, how did you even start to approach it? i'm not a sports fan, but now i have a strong, strong desire for a hufflefpuff house scarf that works like this. anyway it's awesome and i'm so glad you shared it on the internet!
Thank you! A Hufflepuff scarf like this would be amazing! I actually started an illusion knit dark mark scarf forever ago that I never finished. I should maybe try to find that. :)
Illusion knitting is actually really easy once you get past the chart. The Stitch n’ Bitch handbook has an illusion scarf pattern that is great for beginners because it explains the process. "The illusion knitting is the result of two things: knitting texture and positive/negative space images. The texture is created by combining knit (flat) with purl (raised) stitches”.
For my scarf, I actually bought an illusion alphabet and then put all the letters together. All you need to know for illusion knitting is a basic understanding of chart reading and knit and purl stitches.
I usually write out the pattern if I ever have to work from a chart because it’s easier for me to read but, YMMV. :) This is what my charts and notes for this scarf look like. It looks like a lot, but it’s not too bad. One of my first knitting projects was an illusion knit.
