“In this whole, wide, wicked world, the only thing you have to be afraid of is me.”
he’s quiet as he looks at her, his head cocked to the side in curious wonder. he’s been working for her for a while now, but the way she does things still fascinates him. he’s never met anyone as cold and calculated as her. he had to appreciate it a little; doing what she does can’t be easy on anybody, yet Charlotte makes it look effortless. he knows in that moment that what she says is true. there is nothing for him to fear in this world except for her. and even then, he’d never wish to deceive her- would never wish to get on her bad side. after all, Oliver isn’t an idiot. he’s seen the way she works and he knows no one would ever find his body, and his boyfriend would be left wondering what happened to him. that just doesn’t work for him; he could never abandon his beloved for that price.
but then again, Charlotte doesn’t know what it’s like to live inside his head. she doesn’t know what he sees when things go dark- when he doesn’t take his medication. she doesn’t know how terrifying it truly is. how could she be the only thing he should fear when his own mind haunts him ?? he curls his hands into fists and exhales a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. he looks away from her.
“i told you; you have me. i’m not going anywhere.” he’d never do anything to jeopardize this. she should know that by now. he looks back at her and gives her a grimace of a smile. “but you’re not the scariest thing i’ve seen. i’ve seen monsters in this world. i don’t think you’re one of them.”
