How should someone write from the POV of a criminal (character didn't become one intentionally) that will eventually get redemption by the end of the book?

Hi! I think you'd write them as you would a regular character according to their personality, but with aspects such as: • A lot of guilt, shame, regret, and self hate• Nightmares of what they've done• Disgust at other criminals before realizing they're just like them• Fear of getting caught, but also a slight want because then at least they won't have to do bad things anymore • Pushing away 'good' people because they think they don't deserve them• Pushing away everyone they care about so their loved ones don't get involved in their mess• Taking up religion because they need the concept of forgiveness to keep going• Fading hope for light at the end of the tunnel. They wonder why keep living at all if they have to live like this. They grasp desperately at any shot at redemption, at getting out of the criminal life style, no matter how illogical or small• Even upon getting redemption, they still feel as it doesn't make up for their past crimes, so their low self esteem is an on going thing. They continuously do good deeds, donate, volunteer, etc, but it still never makes them feel completely pure again.
