I’ve been literally pursuing charges against a local jail for kidnapping a client (not giving them their bond unlawfully) and you know what happened this week? The jail asked the federal government for permission to kidnap immigrants. And the federal government says oh yes please have money.

It’s worth noting that immigration detention is not supposed to be a criminal penalty. It was discouraged to use jails as immigration detention centers in past years for this reason.
Now it’s so indistinguishable that I had to explain to someone yesterday that because of a drunken fight with his uncle that I got dismissed in open court, he’ll never be released, just deported. He had a legal work visa before this. They didn’t even tell him at the jail.
There are some days I just don’t know how to handle this. That’s another avenue for getting people released, closed.
With those cases, ones where people are in custody for stupid shit that would have gotten them released day one if they were a citizen, there’s starting to be nothing we can do. You’re in jail until they ship you to god knows where.
