Who ever guessed that I and this bubbly woman would ever be friends was... well, a good guesser. Now, what a lame introduction.
Let's just get a quick abstract view of the past.
Over four years ago, I was this boy full of dreams while she was this quiet bouncy girl. I was uptight and proper, while she was extremely jolly and loud. I always chose to be serious, while she chose to be carefree. I lived to be snobbish and only talk when approached, while she got lists of friends by being friendly. Our contrasts could reach a long road, but I could not say we were "exact opposites" because that will be disgustingly cheesy. She actually mentioned that I was that schoolboy who walked in fame while she was just that typical schoolgirl, though I wouldn't agree because that was phrased too exaggeratedly.
But I've always been seeking for fun, and that's where she got me.
We may have never really met on the things we were supposed to act on, but it was our personalities that just responded. We were like magnets, and at some point in our lives we had to flip ourselves, different poles faced each other, fate did its work for us to meet, and it was automatic that we got hooked up.
And then we never learned to detach ourselves from each other.
Diane is the perfect balance of life's positiveness. She embodies a high level of energy, which is why she radiates a good load of giddiness. It is hard to pinpoint which part of her entirety could be the reason why she attracts a lot of good friends, but I can say it must be the whole of her. I have to say she has that peculiar magic that whoever comes into her life becomes a total friend. She's a bestfriend for all, and there's no wonder to that.
She's a self-proclaimed beauty. She's sexy in the eyes of an obese (this is never meant to be mean). The curls in her hair were like ocean waves -- they just keep coming back. But amid these, in full honesty, she's the true-est person I've ever met.
She can be truthful at the most helpful times. She loves to sacrifice. She thinks friends matter more than anything. She's a victim to unimaginable troubles in life yet she never lost that genuine shine of happiness. You all could say that you've met a lot of wonderful people, but man, she is the best person one can ever meet in this world.
She's got the world's widest smile, but it was an award she easily got because of her exposed secret (that I am inventing right now): She sees life as more colorful than the most of us do, and she does not do what satisfies her desire but instead what she can and what can make the people surrounding her happy. She's ever been selfless, and she knows how to treat herself right.
But she has always been seeking for fun, and that's where I got her.
We ran on almost the same obstacles for four years now. She has cried on me for a lot of reasons, and I had been most open to her through every time. We were always best on lifting each other. We got our minds both open, ears all ready, and mouth sincere because we know, through some unspoken realizations, that we have each other. Two people can always have each other, and so what makes it different for us is we make use of each other, sometimes intentionally, most of the time unconsciously. I realize now that we have our own unspoken perks. We're actually 'friends with awesome benefits', but definitely not the 'benefits' one could think out of that Justin Timberlake movie. I just think that when one faces a battle, the other comes to the rescue, complete with all the weapons to make the war worthy, and of course, happy. That's probably what this friendship's goal is. Being happy. Being fun. And there's no other person who could make me laugh the hardest than Diane.
No crispiest swear could ever sound so mean when coming from her. I've narrowed her everyday speech and I believe every word from her could only be: (a) funny (which is 90 percent of the time), (b) plain nonsense, or (c) utter honest advice or piece of wisdom. Because that's just how intelligent she is, but she just forgets it, and it has always been my task to keep reminding her soul how great she can be.
We use the same language. We swear a lot whenever we're together, but we know we understand each other. It's insult for her to say we have the same sense of humor because hers was just too high. But we have same standards on which things deserve our laughter. We know what's funny and what's not. We've memorized the basics of our character, and it happens that we get correct assumptions on what the other must be feeling or thinking. Oh yes, we do voice out our guesses. We speak what must be spoken. We talk even if there's nothing to talk about, ending up with something worthy to talk about. We have similar tastes. We see things on similar angles. We're both creative so we know what's good and what's not. Or so we think. We act as inborn critics when we secretly judge something. Or someone. Interestingly, we both are interested in showbiz personalities and we like the same people in the industry. We almost have the same petty desires in life. We don't get a perfect score on being the same but when one offers a different idea, the other is ready to slash it out. Not because we agreed to be the same all the time, but because we just want to. It's our happiness to be narcissistic against each other, but we do it with confidence because we know the other understands the other. What I liked the most is that we have the same exact thoughts, we do the same thinking, and so just one "Oh basta, gets?" would already suffice the conversation - with really 'getting' the point across and not just to say yes and end the discussion. She's eats unhealthy food, while I love to eat veggies, but nobody cares. We both hate how time runs fast, and we both could be our wildest selves when teamed up.
I always say I don't believe in "bestfriends," and that I don't know what it means, but if I base it from what this society implies, I guess Diane should serve that role in my life. But no, I have to go back into not believing. Diane just has that role higher into that. And I guess only a quarter was explained in this long appreciation post. And, by the way, she's the first person to be featured here in TPZ!
So, for the sake of her eighteenth year in this world, I will say for the first time, Diane shall always be the best friend I will ever get.
Happy birthday, Cris Diane! Well, she knows I love her even if she never heard me say it.
