ATTENTION WRITERS: I am looking to start a crit group online. With all the technology of today, I think this would be a great way to get different perspectives from all over. We could Skype, Email, Snapchat, DM... The possibilities are endless! I'm looking to form a group of about 10. If you're interested: Comment, DM, or Tweet me! Let's join together and help one another! 😀😀😍😍 @Jessicajuvs #amwriting #critgroup #writerslife #newmedia #fiction #YA #Fantasy
Crit Group #2 and #3 Recap
Our (yet-unnamed) crit group had its second and third meetings. They were really fun - I'm lucky to get to spend some of my time hanging out with these guys!

from CG#2:
Anthony Lindsey and Shane O’Neill brought great work - Shane shot a patch of light on the ground based on my quote:
"In a still photograph you basically have two variables, where you stand and when you press the shutter. That’s all you have. It can happen anytime, anywhere. I mean, you don’t have to be in front of stuff that’s going to make a good photograph. It’s possible anywhere. - Henry Wessel
Anthony shot a great hard-light portrait of an architect that told something about the subjects character based on Shane's photo by Helmut Newton. Anthony used backlit architectural drawings to prop the shot and further draw parallels to the Helmut Newton shot.
I shot a month-long narrative focusing on juxtaposing the big picture and minute details based on Anthony's video by Charles and Ray Eames

from CG#3:
Anthony and Shane again brought gorgeous work. Anthony brought a panorama of a city street corner at dawn based on the movie Let The Right One In which was Shane's POI (piece of inspiration) from CG#2. It was stunning and will hopefully be a new portfolio piece for him.
Shane brought screenshots of his baby: his new website and new Tumblr (both yet undisclosed) which he's been working on like crazy. They look really beautiful. He happened to take my POIs from both CG#2 and #3 so he'll make images from both POIs and bring them to CG#4 in Feb. My POI from CG#2 was to attend the impressionist exhibit at the De Young museum and to shoot based on this Pierre Bonnard painting and from CG#3 is still under wraps until the next blog post.
I spend part of December shooting a personal project (This Could Be Anywhere) and while I was shooting it made sure to work on this portrait which was based on Anthony's CG#2 POI of Erwin Olaf's Hotel series. I'm really glad to have had an assignment like this because otherwise I wouldn't have taken that portrait from the back sitting on the bed - it caused me to take time and think about making an image I wouldn't otherwise have made.

For our fourth CG we each have our POI's on the brain and they're pretty great. I'm excited to see what we turn out. This time again, I took Anthony's POI, Shane took mine and Anthony took Shane's. It should be a good rendez-vous!
