My process with editing
You will get back red marks.
The first time you read through it, you will be incensed. How dare they? How could they not understand what you were saying there? It’s so obvious!
Let yourself be upset for a moment. It’s a valid reaction. It’s understandable to be upset when the words you poured your soul into get torn apart like cobwebs.
Then take a break. Relax. Remind yourself that editors, almost always, just want to help you.
Go back and reread the notes. Generally they will be useful. Maybe you phrased something poorly because YOU knew what you meant, but the reader doesn’t get that. Maybe it was an honest mistake. Maybe the editor noticed something from a completely new perspective that you haven’t considered.
Make notes on the edits. Which ones do you NEED to change? Which ones need clarification? Which ones do you actually disagree with the editor about?
Then tear your work apart. What you take out goes into the foundation and makes it stronger. Build upon the rubble of your old words and make something better for it.

noooo your art is wonderful. i’d have the same reaction, though. it would make me feel all hurt and shit. it’s okay…..some people are overly critical. you didn’t make anyone’s dash ugly!!!!
