Went to St Govan’s Chapel in Pembrokeshire! To get to this place you have to drive down several single track lanes and cross a military firing range but it’s so worth it. The story of this place is that in the 5th or 6th century St Govan was walking along the South coast of Pembrokeshire and was seen and chased by pirates. Whilst running away from them, a cleft opened up in the cliff and he was able to wedge himself in to hide from the pirates. After they left he decided to build this single room cell where he lived off fresh fish and water from a spring that flowed nearby. He also became a nuisance to the pirates by ringing a magic bell every time he saw them to alert others before they could raid the coast. The pirates stole the bell but a storm whipped up and sunk the ship they were on, killing them all! A group of angels descended down, retrieved the bell and encased it in a rock so it couldn’t be stolen again. St Govan would then hit the rock and it would make a sound many times louder than the original bell. The 5th century must’ve been a crazy time! #pembrokeshire #stgovanschapel #wales #cymru #croesocymru #visitwales (at St Govan's Chapel) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUF2aViMcX2/?utm_medium=tumblr
