Croquis
In fashion, croquis are used as quick sketches. Generally speaking, they have at least some color. They are used to demonstrate and develop ideas. Many times, croquis demonstrate the function of a garment. There are endless styles for drawing a croquis, but the industry standard is about 9 heads tall. They have a range of stylistic variances. Some look nearly realistic, others look cartoonish, with disproportionate heads.
These differences depend on the artist. It is expected that each individual artist have their own standard style set for croquis. This aids in identification, and degree of presentation.
The word "croquis" is borrowed from French. It is used internationally to refer to a preliminary sketch. Normally, these sketches have specific ties to design. As implied, croquis are used for much more than fashion design. However, in other genres, the touch of color is not a requirement.
