Madie Awkward Meetings I - We live in the same block of flats but haven’t ever talked and Sunday morning we were both doing the walk of shame and had to stand in the lift together (YES GOOD)
Maggie and Sadie were cordial with one another. They’d both come in quite often from nights out and muttered the location or occasion that they were coming from and quick good morning/good night. It was nice and they both appreciated having someone they could have a silent friendship with. Maggie was standing waiting for the elevator when Sadie walked in looking upset. Maggie wasn’t sure if she should tell her she was coming from her 4 year anniversary date or not considering how upset she looked.
“I really like the thing we’ve got going but can we not tonight? I know that must make me seem like a bitch but I just…I can’t right now.” Sadie explained and Maggie shook her head.
“Yeah of course. No problem.” The elevator dinged and they both got on and stood in silence. Maggie didn’t dare a glance until the elevator jolted and the lights flashed.
“This is perfect. This is my life in a nutshell.” Sadie said in the dark. The emergency lights came on and an announcement came across the speaker saying help was on the way but they both knew the maintenance guy didn’t get in until at least 7 AM. The silence continued as they both got comfortable on the floor of the elevator on opposite sides. Maggie knew her phone wouldn’t work and Sadie had turned hers off so they sat.
Eventually after almost an hour of silence, Sadie let out a sigh making Maggie look up.
“I’m about 75% sure my boyfriend is cheating on me.” Maggie frowned at her.
“His stupid next door neighbor showed up this morning out of the blue and apparently she’d left her underwear at his place. Like if that’s not cheating, I don’t know what is.” Sadie explained.
“Could their laundry have gotten mixed up?” Maggie asked and Sadie rolled her eyes.
“That’s what Theo says happened but Tracy is shady and I don’t trust her. I also feel like he’s been being distant lately so he’s probably cheating.” Sadie dismissed.
“I’m sorry. I hope you’re wrong. You always seem so happy when you head out or come back from your dates.” Sadie frowned at Maggie.
“I should have known he was too good to be true. A body on a face like that, something had to be amiss.” Maggie smiled at her.
“Taylor Swift has about 3 albums dedicated to your boyfriend.” Maggie joked making Sadie smile.
“What was the big occasion for you tonight? You’re awfully dressed up. I love those shoes.” Sadie commented.
“It was our 4 year anniversary.” Sadie smiled at Maggie’s blush.
“That’s the cutest! Wow 4 years! That’s crazy. Congratulations.” Sadie kicked her foot out and hit Maggie’s playfully.
“He’s my nerd. I kinda love the crap out of him.” Maggie bit her lip trying to keep from gushing and Sadie thought it was the sweetest thing. They continued to go back and forth about their boyfriends until the elevator finally started moving. They jumped up and fixed their clothes and cheered when the doors opened.
“FREEDOM!” Maggie yelled holding her heels in her hand.
“Sadie! Oh my god, are you okay?!” A muscular guy ran up and hugged Sadie tightly making Maggie raise her eyebrow. Sadie mouthed that it was her boyfriend Theo and she pulled away.
“Look I know you left thinking the worst but I promise you that’s not why I’ve been weird. I wanted to ask you…would you move in with me?” Theo held up a key and Sadie’s jaw dropped. Maggie was smiling like an idiot behind Theo trying to raise the roof without drawing attention and Sadie blushed.
“What about Tracy?” She questioned and Theo shook his head.
“She’s like an annoying little sister who’s jealous. You know I only have eyes for you.” Theo ran his finger across Sadie’s chin and she took his word. She told him she’d think about it and later gushed to Maggie how nice Theo’s place was. At first Sadie was sad to be leaving her building but it forced them to be actual friends that went out and visited one another so all in all it was a win.
