Crouching_World came into being in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side during 2010 as a space for mutual musical experimentation amongst a group of loosely-knit musicians fond of electronics, improvisation, and the consumption of copious amounts of alcohol. During its existence, Crouching_World played host to a number of open-minded musicians, and these sessions were often recorded to capture the spontaneous musical carnage created. By summer 2010, Crouching_World was dissolved, dispersed, and fragmented, as were the various musicians involved.

In late 2011, the desire to resurrect Crouching_World manifested, and by mid-2012, Crouching_World Tapes was established to echo the ethos of mind-altered, DIY lo-fi musical experimentation.

CWTapes is currently based in Chicago, IL/Eagle Rock, CA and curated by Telly Pavlogianis and Jake Dietz.
