What did the people do to Mr. Calhoun....?

the usual, ramping the cowboy thing up to like 10 billion and just in general wildly changing his character to suit ship (read: freeh/oun) art/fics. it’s the reason i literally haven’t touched the hl tag in 10 months <3

well alright :0

it involves a fanspecies i created called “the hush”. the hush are a species of worm that lived during the era of silence. after the first sound was made, they began capturing trolls and muting them, a process that disconnected them from music, in an effort to restore the silence. in order to stop them, the ancestors used the power of the strings to seal them in their home

they were awoken when poppy destroyed the strings during the events of world tour. evidently not happy about having been put to sleep for years and years and years, they go back to doing what they were doing in the first place, with their leader, a hush known as silence, having it out for the leaders (as the leaders, when working together, have the capability to seal them away again)

this one was drawn by me

without getting into too many details: this story takes place probably like...a few months after the events of world tour? i honestly haven’t thought about a timeframe. trolls kinda...start vanishing, with country and classical being the most affected (you see, the hush live northwest to lonesome flats). the leaders all meet up in pop village to figure out What is going on. they ultimately agree on a buddy system

however, after the meeting, barb kinda decides to go off by herself (something got her really worked up and she wanted to cool off a bit). poppy offers to go with her, but barb insists that she’ll be fine. poppy, worried about straining her friendship with barb, ultimately lets her go off by herself

needless to say, barb gets caught!

after this point in the story, the perspective switches from what’s going on above ground and what’s going on in what’s currently dubbed as wormhome, for lack of a better name.

some additional notes!!

- the hush cannot be properly seen by trolls who aren’t silenced. they appear as giant shadows; you think you can start to make it out, but it seems to get more unclear

- the hush do NOT want to harm the trolls. they just...think the world messed up. shouldn’t they be apart of it, if it were the way things were supposed to be? they shouldn’t be rendered as shadows, right? as the trolls brought music and color, they believed that, by quieting them down, things would go back to the way they were

- silenced trolls CANNOT hear or create music. the music kinda sounds like static. if they try to play an instrument, it’s like...their body suddenly forgot how to, and they can’t will themselves to try. if they try to sing, it’s like the air gets caught in their throat. silenced trolls’ hair color ALSO goes back to it’s original color

- there are ways for trolls to get unmuted, but the easiest method is through the leaders all playing together. the thing is, barb is silenced, soooo....that’s out of the question
