Photographer spotlight: David Michael McCarthy

David's theme came to him as he was walking on his local beach and saw loads of rubbish washed up. It made him wonder if people realize how much we just dump in our seas. The amount that gets washed up is only a tiny bit so imagine what's still out there floating about for years at a time.

It's amazing what the sea will release from its grip on a daily basis. 

According to the United Nations Environment Programme, around 13,000 pieces of plastic litter float on every square kilometre of ocean. More than enough to fill David's days on the beach for a couple of lifetimes.
