Surprisingly, I do not bring you angst today. Instead, I bring you a cute moment that follows the angst 😊

Edwin sat behind Monty on their bed, brushing their wet hair while Charles dug in the dresser for pajamas. Monty was watching Charles, their curious eyes scanning his body. There was a bloom of pride in their chest as they took in the multiple bite marks and scratches that covered the expanse of Charles’ back.

“Want me to braid your hair, love?” Edwin asked softly, pulling Monty’s attention from Charles.

“Yes, please.”

Monty flies out of the open door then, up and away into the sky. He flies over the town, over Mick’s shop, over The Tongue and Tail, over the library.

He has no idea where he’s going because his body is screaming at him to return, to return to Esther and his cage and where he’s supposed to be, but he knows this is his one chance, his one opportunity to finally be free. So he flies. He catches an updraft and soars high above Port Townsend, above the lighthouse and the shoreline and the Visitor Centre. It’s incredible. He hasn’t been able to stretch his wings in so long and hasn’t been able to truly fly without restraint in decades.

Summary and my thoughts under the cut

Summary: Everything is fine now. Esther has been defeated. The agency is back in London, now with two new human members and a crow-turned-boy-turned-ghost on its (nonexistent) payroll. Edwin and Charles have worked things out between them and are utterly, annoyingly besotted with each other.

So why does it feel like Monty's life just keeps getting more complicated?

What I liked about it: I adore the way author writes the progression of Monty and his relationships with pretty much everyone in the agency+Jenny. There is an ephasis on Monty struggling with his self identity and not just his feelings for both Charles and Edwin, which I really appreciate. All the characters feel real and fleshed out, giving them space to be flawed and cause friction between them, which then prompts them to try and work things out later.

While I am generally not a big fan of pov switching, but I have to admit it was done in a very interesting way in this fic with some side characters giving us insight into how some dynamics looks like to the casual observer, and ofc, the last installment from today was Edwin's pov and made me flail fr. If you love Monty centric fic, this is definitely on top of my recommendation
