Asking because you complained about ao3 tagging. I'm currently writing a very very long fanfiction that is very drama heavy. How much am I supposed to fucking spoil in the tags. Obviously I understand the big content warnings (none of them are needed in what I'm writing rn) but what about everything else. Part of me wants to reveal as little as possible in the tags but what if someone gets pissed that I didn't warn about a specific thing? Or what if on the contrary I miss out on an audience who would have clicked specifically for a tag?? I'm pulling my hair out. Same thing for ships. With the kind of story I'm writing, it would feel stupid to announce each ship that's gonna develop in advance via tags but also it feels like correct ao3 etiquette?? It all makes me so anxious
Hi mutual hiii hello hi
Lowkey I am team spoil everything because I don't want to miss out on an audience, but I know a lot of people only tag warnings and some basic/well-known and named tropes. BUT I'm also the type of person who reads scripts of movies before I watch them because I like to know what to look for.
People frequently talk about how AO3 has people spoiled via separating every story into tags. Books don't often have this, and AO3 readers usually regard this as a reason for why fics are more enjoyable than original fiction. I'd say I agree with that too.
You're right that it is ao3 etiquette to tag all ships (unless they're background in which case it's annoying to tag them hdlsjsk) but Idk why you think it'd be stupid to announce it, I think I need more context 👀
