I really kinda hope they wrap up Calebs whole deal pretty early cuz, i like Liam but he has a tendancy to really drag on the angst and i get tired of it quick, i really want to see Jesters awesome traveler arc without Caleb in the background going "Oh, you have this comunity, that's so nice... I wish I had that... I killed my parents...." And i dont really want to know what he'll do when Beau has to deal with her dad And Liam is really great! But Caleb is SO sad, just, no matter whats going on
i will gladly put up with the full angst early on if that means this looming feeling will end, and for liams roleplay i do think he knows what he is doing (he said many times caleb is evil and wants power) but for some reason that doesn’t translate to the fandom at all, my rant has more to do with my fandom experience (since i check the tag at least once a day) that what actually happens in the show. caleb actions often get magnified, other characters backstories somehow relate to caleb, everything is made about him.
Do you ever get the feeling that these issues are partly because of subtle unconscious sexism? It's pretty well documented that men speak more in conversations and there are already only two women at a table of 7 most of the time. With the addition of unconscious sexism in the fandom towards the male characters. Not trying to be all political or serious, it's just something that crosses my mind every once in a while. I too would like to see a lot more women adventures and friendship and love.
i have no doubt it’s one of the reasons . it happened all the time last campaign especially with keyleth for being outspoken and vex for being assertive and caring for money, i can be all day naming things the fandom took issue only with female characters like #broomgate, kiki being trashed just for expresing opposing views, vex character being reduced to being percys girlfriend. beau being blamed for the bowl fight, it is a trend and im tired of it,
they should put todays episode for all the fandom to rewatch because honestly it’s really important to remind everyone (over and over again) that the marisha hate is not welcome in the fandom
im awake and im still mad lmao; from now on i will tag these post as #crsigh so you can avoid them,
i have two problems with how the fandom handle inner party conflics (since cr1)
one, just because a member has issues doen’t absolve them of the blame of the situation, caleb isn’t a soft boi being atacked by a mean marisha and i say marisha because people cant tell the diference.
caleb always runs to the loot, identifies it and then he desides who gets what and if the party gets to know the full truth of the item. fjord was about to search the crates but caleb went first; and i know nott was the one to find it but as long as caleb being the only one who get the info on every magical item isn’t adressed is bound to create conflict,
two marisha is not a person who creates drama just for the sake of it, she doesn’t make her character do harsh things to upset her friends. the point of her character is that she doesn’t know how to be tactful in a sensitive situation, Beau had no reason to distrust Cali and Caleb didn’t either as Liam rolled a natural 1 to insight check her. they already knew the artifact was evil and used for evil things, so there were other ways to prove she was telling the truth (like casting the spell when they first met her) that single her out acussing her of something she wasn’t going to do.
I’m really glad to have found your small rants from last night, whenever there’s conflict like that my first reaction is ‘this is a nuanced issue and I hope they’ll fix it!’ but then I go online and there’s inevitably people hating on marisha, not even her character, her!, and I just get so tired, reading your response was super cathartic.
well im glad it helped u anon! i mostly stay out of the fandom discurse but last night i was just so over it. i had faith that in this campaign the fandom would learn a thing or two about cr1 but it seems that with the new people joining the good ol’ kiki/marisha haters nothing has changed :/
