hello!!! I have so many HCs to request for ,,, if you don't mind could you do another crugo (craig x hugo) date maybe to a softball match this time ¿¿¿ ily ;-;;;;
So that’s the ship name? It sounds cute! Hope you’ll enjoy this prompt as well.
It wastheir first official date as a couple and to say Hugo was nervous would be anunderstatement.
Not becausehe was worried about being seen in public with Craig – the mere thought wasabsurd, anyone would be proud to show off a boyfriendlike Craig – or because he didn’t want the whole town to know he was gay –if they didn’t know by now, they were even less observant than Hugo had giventhem credit for. No, he was nervous because of all places they could have doneto for their first ‘outing’, it had to be one of Craig’s daughters’ softballmatches. That was not to say he didn’t like Briar and Hazel. Their reaction tobeing told about their father’s new relationship had been surprisinglypositive, especially compared to Ernest’s, but Hugo’s expectations regarding thathad been low to begin with.
It wasn’tthe twins, nor the setting itself. It was the audience, a particular group ofpeople in particular. The infamous softball moms. Hugo had never personallybeen to one of the girls’ matches before, but [Dadsona] told him about themonce and each word had sent spikes of horror and fear into Hugo’sconsciousness. He could see them from his seat up the stands; they didn’t eventry to hide their hunger. One could think all they saw in Craig was his body,their behaviour made such an assumption more than obvious. During most of thegame, Hugo was too distracted to pay proper attention. The noises faded intothe background of his mind as he tried, and failed, to calm down his nerves. Halfof his worries were based on [Dadsona]’s warnings, the rest was born from hisvivid imagination. Perhaps reading Hannibal Rising last evening had been amistake, Hugo thought and a dry smile appeared on his face.
Hugo onlynoticed the game had ended when the people around him started to cheer. Heblinked, focusing on the here and now once more, and saw Craig jog up to histeam, grinning so brightly Hugo knew they had won. Hugo’s smile grew into amatching grin. He waited until most of the people had disappeared beforebraving his way down on the field. When he reached Craig, the moms were alreadythere, surrounding Craig like sharks about to attack their prey. They didn’tseem to notice Craig’s discomfort. But then, before they started dating, Hugowouldn’t have either.
“Hugo!”Craig called out the moment he spotted him and broke through the softball mombarrier to reach his boyfriend. Even though Craig came to a halt a few inchesaway from him and didn’t touch Hugo beyond the hand that came to rest on hisshoulder, Hugo still felt himself blush. “Hey, Craig. Congratulations towinning the game. You guys were great.” The last part he directed at the girls.Briar gave him the thumbs up, while Hazel shot him a look. It was thanks toHugo’s experiences as a teacher that he was able to interpret it. “That was allthe girls,” Craig said, sounding and looking so proud, Hugo was tempted to cuphis face and kiss him. “I only pointed them in the right direction. Really,they don’t need me anymore!” “Nonsense, Craig,” one of the moms interrupted. She wrapped an arm around Craig’sbiceps and pressed close. Hugo noticed the way Craig immediately tensed up, shedidn’t. “Without your strong leadership, the girls wouldn’t be half as good asthey are now.”Hugo’s heart beat so fast, it nearly burst through his chest. Craig’s hand wasstill on Hugo’s shoulder; he gently took it and kissed Craig’s knuckles, eachindividual finger. “I have to agree with her, Craig. If anything, it was ashared effort.” He didn’t know whose face was redder: His, Craig’s, or the moms’.Craig stood frozen, mouth slightly agape, before he broke into a smile andlaced their fingers together. “Thanks, bro. I appreciate it. You coming to thepizza parlour with us?”A childish part of Hugo basked in the mothers’ angry looks as Craig wrapped anarm around his waist. “Of course. You know I’d hardly say no to somethinginvolving cheese.”
