Kallei couldn't, however, resist the urge to walk through the house, looking in on the grubs in the nursery, Mehray and Tivnai in their beds.

He paused by the door of the room he used to share with someone when his name was different and his heart was weaker. Next to this, he felt almost nothing when he stopped to stare at it, not for the first time.
He let out a long, slow breath, then continued down to the bedroom he shared with his mates.
If it ended tonight, he wished they could have spent more time together today, wished they could have snuggled in the bath or napped on the porch or watched the stars in the yard, but there just hadn't been any time.
He paused again to study their faces, closing eyes that filled with tears and forcing the worry back down. When he opened his eyes again, it was to vision that no longer swam behind crimson tinted tears. "I l9ve y9u 69th s9 much." He murmured, then snuggled in with them, careful not to wake them.
It was a long time before he finally relaxed enough to sleep, but when he did, it hit him deeply.
