I watch Kadri like the long distance friend who no one has heard from. I'm glad he's in the playoffs but I'm still sad he left Calgary.

They expect me to be normal when I'm sleep deprived and three Canadian hockey games happen today.

Had to chill on the side of the highway for the whole game because I feared the same way I feared for life.

Winter tips from a Canadian who sees -30C plus wind chill frequently, in no particular order:

Stay up-to-date on weather updates from radios, news, alerts.

If you turn your water off let your pipes drain so they don't burst.

Always carry a toque (beanie) and gloves. You can double-up on gloves.

You can double-up on any clothing. I've waited for 3 hours for the vet wearing ski base layers, leggings, jeans, snowpants, a long-sleeve shirt, a zip-up, a bunnyhug (hoodie), and a winter jacket; I also had 3 pairs of socks on in reinforced and thermal ranch boots. It wasn't the best for comfort but I was warm.

There is never overdressed, only under prepared.

The wind is the biggest threat. Always have a top layer that breaks the wind.

Cover your mouth if you're going outside, especially if you have asthma. If your eyes water (likely from wind), put something over your eyes too.

Coast over black ice when driving. No sudden accelerations or brakes; glide. I cannot stress this enough. Blowing snow creates black ice.

Your car needs to warm up for 5 minutes before driving it. Warm up in neutral if you can (only if it is safe). Plug it in the night before if you have to use it in the morning, and still warm it up.

Don't be afraid of driving slow, but turn your lights on even if it is broad daylight. Snow reflects the sun which can be so dangerous for driving.

Emergency kits should include practical items such as drinking water, food, cash, first aid supplies, and a portable radio. However, they should also include items that are unique to your own needs. This could include baby items, medical prescriptions, pet food, etc. My area recommends having a stock up of 3-5 days worth, which can vary from area to area.

Have batteries, jugs of water, and flashlights ready. Sit away from windows.

Do not use outdoor heaters, barbecues, etc inside.

Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work before the storm.

Avoid overexertion when shoveling or walking in snow to reduce the risk of heart attack. Snow is heavy and clings to you. If you feel tired, drained, or heavy, it's time to rest. Don't shovel until the snow finishes falling, it will save your sanity.

Keep your pets inside. If they have to go out, no more than a few minutes. If you have livestock, make sure they have access to shelter and forage to keep them warm. Blanket horses, for example, if you have them. Forage should be freely available and abundant.

If you have animals outside, make sure the water has a heater in it.

Find a hobby or pastime to give your mind a release: read, draw, write in a notebook, card games. Give yourself something.

Unpopular opinion: Marvel Zombies is a mediocre attempt to cover up the larger issues at hand, and that doesn't include Feige's "quantity over quality" comments. Rather than address the problems that lie in plot, story, and characterization they choose an easy way out.
