To be clear, I was a cryptoracist myself. I was such a cryptoracist that even I didn't know I was racist. I do often wonder if that isn't the case for many, or even the majority of racists. Racism in general can be extremely insidious. It's sort of scary to think about how easy it is to fall into behaviors that harm other people.
Before you get on your high horse and think that you're better than me, please look at your own behavior. Racism isn't the only insidious harm. Sexism isn't either. Our brains aren't perfect machines designed to find truth or compassion. Almost all of us will hurt innocent people and we'll feel completely justified doing it. You're not built different. If you don't recall ever doing it, you should be weary of yourself.
