It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Crystal Creatures Series 1 Nightsky! Crystal Creatures by Megaconstrux is a new thing to this Tumblr. Megaconstrux made 2 types of blind-box assembly toys the Crystal Creatures “For girls” and then the “breakout beasts” “for boys”. (Why this distinction needs to occur at all....I have no idea, toys are for people who like to play, that is all) They have the same concept, which is a buildable creature packaged in a blind box egg inside of glitter slime. The crystal picture pouch held slime, in which all the pieces of the toy are set. You have to pick the pieces out of the slime to assemble it, then store the slime in the egg. The parts of several creatures are mix-n-match-able. It is a good enough, and complex enough gimmick. However, I do not like the slime, I don’t like things that won’t get off me and it won’t get off. The pieces are difficult to de-slime and had to be washed rather thoroughly as it is the nature of slime to cling and ignore water. So, it seemed like a pre-dirty toy from a dingy flea market bin with all the fuss before you can even do anything with it. The assembly is easy enough, the parts pop together (squelching slime out of the holes.......) It’s probably 10 min or so to build. Nightsky is a neat fantasy unicorn pegasus! I love the paint on the face, very detailed. The horn and wings are nice and big/fantasy. That it is black is also cool, with the frost blue belly area. The head is a ball joint so it can look around pretty well. The chest plate interferes a little with the neck movement, though. The front legs don’t look quite right (very tubular) without the armor widgets so they’re a must. The white bits are nicely pearlized. The tail is also a ball joint but it is set rather too low on the body. The wings are ball joints on a stem but....the plastic is rather thick so they don’t hold themselves up/hold poses that well. (It is always a tradeoff on ‘assemble toy’ vs ‘very sturdy toy’--you often can’t have both) Once built, you use the little clear stem on the egg top to display the Crystal Creature. Displaying like this looks very nice! It also takes up a good bit of space. Despite the slime, this IS a cool toy to have, 100% fantasy and decently sculpted with action-figure play value. The blindboxing is annoying because it always is, and this is 1 of 6 creatures on wave 1. At 10+ dollars each it would be burdensome to get a duplicate. If this post is well liked, I will hatch another of these. (I hatched this one on Easter...it seemed appropriate for an egg theme!)
Look at this beautiful "crystal creature" i just got. She came in the egg which had a bag of slime with her apart in lego like pieces. Shes posable and parts swappable with the others in this line.
She was 10 bucks and im hoping to pick up more soon. (Im really hoping for a winged deer )
Here’s some enemy creature concepts I did for one project I’m trying to work on. They are crystal-like creatures that live in dark cavern areas and blend in with natural crystal formations. I haven’t thought up names or anything. All I got is what they look like.
I had some character ideas, and I drew 'em
Their names (from left to right) are Conner, Fiona, and Ethan
Ok for some context on who Conner and Fiona are, they are what I call Crystal Creatures (name is still in draft)
What these creatures are is basically weird entities that can shapeshift and have different abilities and traits.
May write more on the lore of them and about what Ethan has to do with them
It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Crystal Creatures! Now, everything here isn’t a fantasy horse/unicorn but not really photos featuring just those/only the whole set so...time to have a look anyway. These are action figures that you have to assemble because they come packed in a ‘crystal rock egg’ along with their base. They’re fairly large though, probably G1 pony sized when put together, and as you can see have lots of good detail. There’s a 2 horn purple horse with transparent hair, a fire unicorn with flames, a panther...unicorn? with big wings, and maybe a water unicorn or something that’s blue with blue wings. It also seems to have a gazelle of some sort, a horned lion, a griffin, a dragon and probably, another griffin? They’re colorful, have cool patterns and great fantasy elements. So what’s the problem? They’re blind-boxed and also over 10 dollars each. And with 9 to get...if you only wanted fantasy horses you’d have trouble because that’s 90 dollars you’d have to spend. Are they characters? A story with them? I don’t know. But they look like they should be, like the flame Gazelle (look at the fun pattern on the leg!) is a queen who has to get help from the 2-horn horse because evil wizards are on the loose...will the Panther-corn be an antihero? What will she do next! These I would collect if given the chance, they seem cool...but I would also see it in person first, and certainly not in a BB randomized way.
I'm thinking on making an "original species"
Ok so remember these boyes?
I'm thinking on making these a part of a new species called "Crystal Creatures." So what I have in mind is these little creatures live on a far away planet. Still thinking on a name for it. What they are made of is a weird goopy mass. Some have traits that allow them to shape themselves into anything they please, aka shapeshifting. Other traits they can have is psychic abilities, extra strength, and poisonous spit. I may add more traits when I can think of them. Their crystals are the things that keep them alive. If they didnt have one, they would just turn into a puddle of goop. So the crystal is basically the heart (and brain) of all crystal creatures.
I'll add more soon, this is just a basic summary. But this is still a developing world, so take everything I say with a grain of salt
