How does your hair always look so flawless? Omg tell me your secrets! Your color is always SO SO even and somehow your hair NEVER seems even a little bit damaged??!? wut. how.
Hi again! Thanks! This is going to be lengthy, so I apologize for any confusion!
My hair has never been in the best condition, but thankfully it’s nowhere as damaged as it used to be (I used to dye my hair a new color every month and it was terrible). I cut several inches off my hair recently as well so that has helped!I usually wait for my dye to fade enough before changing the color, and then do a soap cap/bleach bath to get rid of what remains. This only takes like 10-15 minutes, and is a lot less damaging than bleaching my hair for an hour. If the dye has faded enough and if I’m lucky, usually the color is gone seconds after the bleach touches the hair. If the dye refuses to fade or I get bored of the current color I try to wait at least 2-3 months before doing a full bleaching. Since this is more damaging than a bleach bath, I don’t do this unless the dye refuses to fade (besides bleaching any regrowth).
Also, if the dye has faded enough and you don’t want to bleach your hair at all, I recommend following the color wheel when it comes to picking your next color. For example if your hair is currently a faded pink you can put red or purple dye over your hair (without bleaching first) and you’ll get a decent color.
As for color evenness, it really depends on the color you choose and the brand of dye. Usually reds, pinks, and purples have a lot of pigment so they’ll easily cover up any errors from your last dye job, or an uneven bleaching. I always call hot pink dye my “miracle color” since it has fixed so many of my color errors! My favorite brand of dye is Manic Panic. MP has really nice pinks and purples, along with my favorite color of their’s, Atomic Turquoise. I’ve also used Ion Color Brillance Brights. Their blue dyes are really nice! I’ve used their sky blue and teal colors, and a friend has tried the azure shade. The sky blue is very pigmented so I wouldn’t recommend this color unless you intend to have blue hair for a long time. I haven’t tried any shades outside their line of blues, though… and I’ve heard many times that this brand is kind of a hit-and-miss.TLDR: Avoid bleaching as much as possible, follow the color wheel, and use dyes with a lot of pigment (Red, hot pink, and purple) to cover any errors/ensure evenness.Hope this helps! :D
