Once Upon a Time: Best moments from the series
It’s been eight years since Once Upon a Time premiered. With the show’s eight-year anniversary, we’re taking a look back at some of the show’s magical moments.
Season 1 is really special and a real favorite of mine. We spend the whole first season frustrated with Emma for not believing Henry and just taking a chance on him. It all finally comes to a head when Henry takes drastic measures to get his mother to believe in the curse and magic.
I love the scene where it finally hits her and she touches the storybook, that belief finally running through her. When she says goodbye to Henry thinking he’s dead, it’s so heartbreaking. But then True Love’s Kiss saves the day in more ways than one! Henry wakes up and we see how everyone else does from the curse!
Many of us were not expecting the curse to be broken at the end of the first season. It was thought to be a struggle that spanned throughout the series. But as they always manage to do, it was one of the first of many plot twists in the show.
Emma meets Snow and Charming as her parents
Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas’ acting is phenomenal here. You can see the raw emotion on their faces, and Jennifer Morrison also does a good job of showing Emma happy to finally meet her parents, but also the reluctance to accept them because they still gave her away. It’s not the perfect reunion they were all expecting.
Emma’s speech to Ashley/Cinderella
“People are going to tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta punch back and say, ‘no this is who I am.’”
This was an important moment for Emma. She could see herself in Ashley with the situation she’s in and how no one believed in her. But she lets her know she’s on her side and tries to show her how strong she is. This is just one example of many where we see how Emma is a strong, female character.
Emma becomes the Dark One
Emma has sacrificed herself in the show so many times because she’s the Savior and feels like it’s her responsibility. She took on the darkness to protect the town. As I said before, Once Upon a Time has had many plot twists and this one was not one I was expecting. The show was going into its fifth season and found a way to keep the story fresh and captivating. You wouldn’t expect to see the Savior become the Dark One!
Emma and Killian meet and climb the Beanstalk
I’ll be honest, I’m a true Captain Swan shipper at heart. I still rewatch their scenes and fangirl over their love story! They constantly support each other and help make one another better.
When Emma and Killian meet, she sees immediately sees through his lies that he’s not a blacksmith. For a moment he’s impressed that she’s one of the few people to best him, as he says. Their time spent climbing the beanstalk and working together really showed their connection and how much he understood her even if she didn’t say much. Of course, with the emotional walls Emma’s built around herself, that scared her and she ended up betraying him at the top.
Emma and Killian’s First Kiss/Killian confessing his feelings
I love the Neverland arc for so many reasons: the storyline, the plot twists, and most of the main cast all working together. But one of my absolute favorite things about it was Emma and Killian’s relationship and how much closer they got.
Their first kiss, was hot and steamy and something that was a long-time coming. Both of them didn’t realize just how much that kiss would affect them and I know all us shippers were cheering with absolute joy.
I’m sure all you Captain Swan shippers remember this line from the Echo Cave” “I never thought I’d be capable of letting go of my first love, of my Milah. To believe that I could find someone else. That is until I met you.” Cue the swooning. That is all.
Emma asks Killian out… to dinner, or something
This was such an important scene for Emma, not only because these two are finally going on a date. It shows that Emma is finally letting those walls down and letting Killian in. We saw how it took three seasons just for her to accept that Storybrooke is her home and now she’s ready to make roots in it with someone she cares about.
Emma and Killian get married
By the time they get married, these two have been through a lot. From emotional walls, to curses, darkness and even death. They’ve seen it all. But they were able to overcome all those obstacles, as True Love always does. Their vows were perfect, they were perfect, everything was perfect – until the Black Fairy’s curse.
Killian sacrifices himself to save everyone
I think Killian’s character development is one of the best on the show. We really see his journey from “villain” to “hero.” This gut-wrenching scene still makes me tear up every time I watch it. Killian, even with all the darkness inside him, realizes he wants to be a hero and is able to overcome it. To save everyone else, he asks Emma to kill him. Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue really showed their stellar acting in this scene. He became a true hero indeed.
