"We've met before. Remember?"
What you don't want to hear from a guy/girl you've just been introduced to.
One of the German Couchsurfers who attended our monthly city meet-up nearly got himself in an awkward situation. Well, actually it was pretty awkward, even with a lot of us laughing it off & jokingly making mocking/annoying noises like he'd been burned. You should have seen Max's face.
Probably the worst thing a person can be told, when he/she is under the impression that he's just met a stranger. I'd have panicked.
Then we all proceeded to compare lines/reactions in handling such an awkward circumstances. Everything from faking recalling someone to smiling idiotically to being outright blunt (asking where/when the hell did that happen) was shared.
Other things I remember from last night's meet-up-slash-Valentine's-Day-party for the local CouchSurfing chapter:
Taking over the bar's sound system to play our music. This is a.k.a whatever song liked by the person who happened to be near Kareen's laptop at any given moment.
Commandeering the only open space in the bar & watching people convert it into a dance floor.
Hamming it up for photos.
Pondering what to contribute to design of the bar.
Me getting teased by people as one-half of "the CS couple". Someone (*cough*alexis cough*) even thought up a nickname. It stuck. I thought the alcohol would erase people's memory.
Thinking up of our next out-of-town trip.
Sharing plans for the summer.
Looking forward to next month (which also happens to be Gringo's bday)
Learning you share a surprising similarities with people you've just met.
Almost poking Gringo's new tattoo. Thought it was an old one.
Getting sandwiched between 2 really good dancers.
Learning new words in another language.
A good turnout for what started as 4 people wanting a meet-up.
Kareen coming up of places and adding "of love" to it.
Teasing James for having an admirer at work.
People beaming like proud mamas when said other half kissed me. Good grief. But yeah, I grinned, too.
Vegetarian-friendly chips.
There's more. Will edit later. I need to leave for the dinner he's preparing in 30 minutes.
Oh, he remembered that it was our monthsary. Win. I remembered but put it at the back of my mind. Wasn't sure if he did that kind of thing. Monthsaries, I mean. I love how we can say things we're wondering about and ask questions - whether out of curiosity or when we're unsure - without scaring each other off. It's refreshing how open we are.
Things he did that made me all warm & fuzzy inside:
He said he was glad I said yes to dinner and that he got work done so he could make it. He made a salad. He also made a German dessert whose name I can't spell from scratch. Need to have him edit that bit for me so I have the name.
He told me about how he felt the 1st we held hands. We were at my house, talking to my dad about history and topics which escape me at the moment. Somehow we ended up holding hands above the table. (Gotta give him bravery points for this, since he's the only guy/boyfriend to do that in front of my dad. I mean, before we officially become a couple. Also, my dad is scary as hell.) He said he couldn't remember a thing my dad said after that. He couldn't concentrate and was just nodding along. Same here, Tobi, same here.
Showed me his edits on his computer and wanted to see my blog (I got nervous at this point.) but the internet was slow.
He played "Mad World" on his guitar and sang. Hello, goosebumps.
