Prepare for your CSCS Test
Getting a CSCS Card is only possible once you do your CSCS Test. We get tradesmen calling in every day who wonder if there’s a way to get a CSCS Card without having to do a test. Unfortunately not! No test equals no card which equals no entry on construction sites. Today, I’m going to take you through the test and how you can prepare for it.
What does the CSCS test entail?
The test is a 45 minute touchscreen one, taken in a quiet room, overseen by an invigilator – so no cheating! The test contains 50 multiple-choice questions, made up of 12 behavioural case study questions testing your knowledge on how to stay safe on site, and 38 knowledge questions that will test your awareness of health, safety and environment issues. The test is not the same for all trades – so a test that a carpenter does will be different from a test that a bricklayer does, and so on.
How can I prepare for it?
Revise! If you want to pass the test and get your CSCS Card, you need to revise. Fortunately, there is revision material available, in the form of a book or a DVD, depending on the type of learner you are. If you need to practise, Construction Helpline have got a mock test to help you prepare for the test.
What happens after I pass the test?
If you’ve passed the test, congratulations! As long as you’ve paid for your card, you’ll get your card within 30 working days – with the card processed a couple of days after your test. If you haven’t passed the test first time around, don’t panic. You can take the test again 48 hours after taking the test. My suggestion: use that 48 hours wisely to revise as much as possible – especially on areas you might have struggled on.
