If you're taking prompts from that list '“You weren’t there...why weren’t you there? I needed you! I needed you! And you weren't there!” for let's go with Hedges
[missing scene to 14x09]
He’d be fine.
Nick and Greg were on the case. Two of the best CSIs in the entire department.
So he’d be fine.
They would definitely find out what...what happened to him.
And he’d be fine.
Both the doctors and DB even say it themselves; his vitals are good, they were able to counteract the dose, and David Hodges would recover in no time at all.
He’d be fine.
But “fine” is not what Henry would define his partner’s appearance when he shuffled into the hospital room with some snuck in street food and a card from all their fellow lab rats. He was no longer in the same daze as he was on the stretcher, nor in the same animalistic fit of rage that he was in the motel bathroom but...he wasn’t quite normal.
“Hey, buddy,” Henry started with a gently forced smile and softness to match the comfortably dim lights. “How you feeling?”
“Where were you?” David’s voice, uncharacteristically timid and low stammered. His eyelids fluttered, opening and widening before falling shut, fighting the strings that bound him to the bed, encouraging him to sleep.
“What was that? I couldn’t hear you,” Henry sat down in the nearby chair, scooched closer to the bed.
“You weren’t there...why weren’t you there?” David sat up, pounded his fists on the sheets. “I needed you! I needed you! And you weren’t there!”
The sudden harshness in his words, the raised volume in his voice made Henry jump back, first with fear—because the sudden outburst reminded him of everything that had transpired; the grabbing, his grip so tight that he had the worst bruises he’s ever had in his life. The shattering glass behind him that almost shattered his spine. The utter terror as David didn’t stop, not even when Henry pleaded against him, telling him that he was hurting Henry—
And then the near miss as the crowbar could have easily followed him through the door that he had to barricade to keep Hodges safe.
And himself safe.
It was enough to make him pity David , knowing that he wasn't in his right mind, that he’s still not all in his right mind...
But then Henry rose with anger as David flung his hand towards Henry as if to pull him back in—
“Me? Me? What about you!? You weren’t there either, you were all...checked out and ready to kill me!”
David opened his mouth to interject, but Henry continued—
“I was the one who was asking for you. I was the one who needed you. And you weren’t there at all. I’m trying to help you, and here you are berating me like you always do!”
“I don’t berate you—”
“You know what? Enjoy your shitty ass food from that dumb food truck you like,” Henry tossed the food onto the bedside table, and swished the card out of his hands onto David’s lap. “We all signed his card for you. You can thank everybody later when you remember your manners.”
“Henry—” David began as Henry walked out of the room.
“Save it. I’ll see you back at the lab.”
Once Henry was gone and the grogginess of the sedatives faded completely, David opened the card, an overwhelming collage of support, but Henry’s words stuck out to him the most, his signature bolded more than any of the others.
Get well soon, David.
I need you.
Just casually spending my morning thinking about csi and that one time that Hodges nearly killed Henry on an lsd trip
