The adorkable, beautiful, woman standing next to me in this picture is the wonderful #cspranklerun. I got to meet her at GenCon and it was honestly one of my favorite moments. I first got to see her in her AMAZING Lilliana cosplay, then as a super fun Chandra in a Spyro onesie. She was kind, funny, and excited to be there, and excited to be doing something she loves. I hate the shit people have been piling on her. She doesn’t deserve it, no one deserves it. I hope she doesn’t leave cosplay cause she is wonderful, and the cosplay world, and the MtG world will be less without her.
I remember when Christine was the talk of the town during the 2011 Worlds. I remember her being on several episodes of the Eh Team podcast and suddenly just being everywhere. I met her at Vegas in 2015 and really respected her. I suspect that it will take sometime, but people will realize what we have lost. She didn't invent cosplay and she likely wasn't the first person to cosplay as a Magic character - though, for all I know, maybe she was. But she was a piece of the game's history. We should be better. We should have been better before. I don't know that we will get another Csprankle, other cosplayers - of course - but not someone who changed something like she did. Even if by accident.
I guess this becomes a collector's item now.
I’m not going to go into the drama surrounding it because fuck that but I’m really sad to see csprankle give up on magic over this. Ultimately it’s her decision but it’s just really upsetting to see some shitter and his awful fanbase make such a talented cosplayer leave the community.
That’s all I’m gonna say on the matter. It’s a messy dumb situation and I’m just upset we won’t get to see more mtg cosplays from somebody so talented. Hopefully she’ll still do her thing with other stuff at least.
So many sweet cosplays today! I don't know who all the cosplayers are, with the exception of Christine Sprankle who was Oona today. Really impressed with all the crafty expertise on display. #gpvegas #mtgcosplay #cspranklerun (at Las Vegas Convention Center)
The cosplay makes a lot of sense in context.
