Since the relationship between the shadowbinder and the lightweaver is so tenuous, though, Bartos and Uri are expressly forbidden from being anything more than acquaintances or the occasional coworker when times call for it. Sorry boys

Uri has an unstoppable memory, which means he's literally the only person who knows Bartos' name aside from the shadowbinder herself! It's part of the reason they have such a profound connection tbh. Bartos just needs to hear someone say his name sometimes, bc it gets unbearably lonely
Bartos and Uri have a complicated relationship, but it can basically be summed up as Sworn Frienemies They're rivals, they bicker, and they outright tell one another how much they hate each other. Yet when one of them is in need, it's often the other who's there to take care of them. They're losers
the STUFF and the powers sort of serve to assist in the emissaries Goal, which is basically the job that the deity is having them do. it reflects the element AND the god
tide, the water emissary, has the power to see the future (obviously (but he can’t contorl it)) and an actual talking sword forcefully possessed by the spirit of his predecessor serving as a mentor and a guide as he purposefully changes the future on behalf of the tidelord
bartos is an actual, living shadow. people find themselves forgetting his name as soon as they’ve met him, and soon after they’ll forget everything else about him. he can possess the shadows of other living things, which he uses as pretty much the ultimate spying technique, and i THINK his neato gadget is his cape? it’s made of black feathers and most likely turns him into a bird (bc sometimes u gotta fly around incognito yknow) bc straight up invisibility would be redundant at this point
When Bartos became an emissary, the shadowbinder made it so that everyone he used to know would forget he ever existed. He became a shadow, and not even his own family remembers him. As a joke, she also 'cursed' him.... When people meet him, they'll always get his name just a LITTLE wrong. 'Oh hey Britta what's up' 'hey has anyone seen bert' 'man I sure love barbecue, what a cool guy'
in my lore emissaries are basically just indentured servants of the gods, none of them having any real power over their situation. usually a deal is struck that involves the lives of either the emissary themselves or the lives of loved ones (aka tide, who signed himself away to save the lives of his crew)
their minds and bodies are forfeit, but most deities are cool enough to kinda just... let them remain as they were, for the most part. the most that might happen is a breed change into the respective deity’s Token Dragon
so yeah, bartos wasn’t born a nocturne. he was forcibly changed to fit the shadowbinder’s whim, and it was definitely not fun
