The Cuban Five (also known as the Miami Five) arrive at Cape Town International airport 22 June 2015. The Five - Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González - were imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay for 13-14 years after being  convicted in Miami of conspiracy to commit espionage, conspiracy to commit murder, acting as an agent of a foreign government, and other illegal activities in the United States.

They are in the country as part of a two-week visit to show appreciation to the South African government for assisting with their release.

Cuban Five and Africa

Interview with Morteza Gorgzadeh from the "Toronto Forum on Cuba" following the recent liberation of the Cuban Five, who had been wrongfully jailed in the US for defending their country against extremists attacks of Cuban American exiles based in Miami.  Morteza analysed the Cuban Five's connection with Africa, where three of them fought alongside Angolans against Apartheid South Africa.  He also discussed the recent announcement of normalization between the US and Cuba following over 50 years of brutal embargo.
