In Motion Trio is a jazz fusion group from San Diego, CA that formed in Summer 2009. Consisting of members Jeff Wilson, Dillon Casey, Tim McNalley, Joe Harrison, and Evan Penza, the group’s style is highly improvisational, combining elements of modern school jazz, hip-hop, funk and Afrobeat. In an article in The San Diego Union-Tribune, music critic George Varga described that “[In Motion Trio] brings a fresh attitude to its music, which combines empathetic precision and freewheeling adventure.” In December 2010, the band released the LP The Barefoot Race and has since garnered massive exposure on the San Diego music scene. In addition to a successful west coast tour that followed the release of the album, the group recently received a nomination for Best Jazz at this year’s San Diego Music Awards. Give them a vote, the deadline is today at 5 PM!

YoYoTomio is the moniker of Tomio Ueda, a producer and DJ from Los Angeles, CA. A former music technology student at Cal Arts, Ueda’s music can be described as a frenetic mush-pot of techno, house, electro house, and dub influences. He has recently performed and collaborated with LA-based techno label and concert promoter Droid Behavior and will be releasing recorded material for Mush Records later this year.
Lotide is the brainchild of 19-year-old Devon Hansen, a multi-instrumentalist and videographer hailing from Encinitas. Hansen’s work as Lotide is difficult to characterize: featuring a wide array of sounds reminiscent of dub, world music and psychedelia, soaked with reverb and sequenced to head-nodding effect, Hansen’s compositions are best described as simply “beat music”. Accordingly, Lotide’s sound has a clear kinship with the likes of Brainfeeder and others in Los Angeles’ celebrated beat scene, but Hansen’s music feels distinctively more inward, ethereal and enigmatic than that of his contemporaries. Much of Hansen’s recent acclaim stems from remixes and video work for Serbia’s heralded electronic label Svetlana Industries, and he will soon join the ranks of peers Teebs and BNJMN by releasing his debut EP on the label. Lotide’s live debut was at Cubbfest’s Sunday Funday event, and Hansen will also perform under the moniker at this year’s main event.
The Glass Canoe is a five-piece group formed by friends and long-time bandmates in Spring 2009. The band spent a little over two years writing and molding demos which would eventually become their stylistically varied, sonically ambitious debut album, Chimera. Labeling themselves as “Psychedlic Pop”, The Glass Canoe’s sound focuses heavily on melody and atmosphere, often highlighting infectious vocal harmonies, exuberant hooks and pristinely spaced-out production. They are influenced by a wide array of genres and styles, and are always trying new ways to experiment with their music. The Glass Canoe will be making their live debut at this year’s Main Event.
