My second season Cucamelon vine is still producing fruits. So I'm having a few with dinner tonight.

Récolte abondante du cucamelon
Où melon de souris, c'est une plante grimpante jusqu'à 5m le long. Au goût de concombre elle vient du Mexique Guatemala chez eux on dit sandita. Melothria pendula une autre variété
Found some Cucamelons in the field..
Finally got around to building the trellis and planting melons and cucumbers!! On the end of the trellis row where the melons cease I planted pole bean seeds :)
Also corn has appeared!! It is circled in red on the last picture 🌽
Not only did Chick’s parents come to her rescue with the faulty furniture situation yesterday, but they also brought her the most perfectly-sized watermelon from their garden!
Some of the more unique things we grew this past year.
1. Pine Berries (Lemon Apple Cucumber next to it) - they look like strawberries but taste like pineapple.
2. Sugar Baby Watermelons - they grew small but were the perfect size for Bento Box lunches.
3. Cucamelons - they look like mini watermelons and taste like lemons and cucumber combined! They are crazy vines and have huge tubers you can save for next year!
4. Snowbird Citrus Dwarf Lemon - they are small dwarf potted citrus trees which we did NOT expect to fruit but with a lot of love and attention it started! It looks like a tiny like right now but we can’t wait to see what happens!! When we homestead we NEED to figure out lemons (it’s a staple in the kitchen here).
5. & 6. Oyster Mushrooms - we literally had such a rough time trying mushrooms we decided to grab this box off Amazon. At the same time we also got Lions Mane. The boxed one worked great but the Lions Mane produced one small mushroom that we fried in a pan with butter. It tasted like popcorn.
Thanks for following us on our journey. We are starting in the city and working our way out.
I’ve been nervous to post lately because we cannot seem to keep up with our online orders, but I can’t hold back with these adorable babiest cuties of the cucurbit world. In case you haven’t yet had the pleasure, I introduce you to the Cucamelon! These seeds were grown for our Truelove Seeds catalog by Jane, Karen, Lorrie, and Michaela of @riseandrootfarm in Chester, NY. @michaela.chef.farmer has this to say: "My happy place. These tiny cucamelons are one of my favorites. Crunchy, tangy and so cute. Originally from Mexico and Central America where they are called Sandita (little watermelon), Melothria scabra aren’t actually cucumbers though they taste like they are." With an occasional hint of sourness, you can eat them like cucumbers: in salads, as garnishes, and as pickles. Also known as Mexican Sour Gherkin and Mouse Melon. I’ve seen mentions of the fact this plant has medicinal uses, but not which ones. The fruits are high in lycopene, beta-carotin, fiber, potassium, and vitamins E, C, and K. For those of you who are more familiar with this plant, what parts of the story are we missing? What is your favorite thing about this cutie patootie?
