What Is An Electrical Contact?
An electrical contact is an electrical circuit component found in electrical switches, relays and circuit breakers. Each contact is a piece of electrically conductive metal. When a pair of contacts touch, they can pass an electrical current; when the pair is separated by an insulating gap, then the pair does not pass a current. When the contacts touch, the switch is "closed"; when the contacts are separated, the switch is "open".
Contacts may be operated by humans in push buttons and switches, by mechanical pressure in sensors or machine cams, and electro mechanically in relays. Contact materials are usually composed of superior conduction materials such as silver or gold. However, cheaper metals may be used to reduce costs for the main contact bump and plated with superior metals.
Contacts come in a variety of sizes, from small to very large, depending on voltage requirements and usage. Contacts are used in all types of control devices. Unlike circuit breakers, electrical contacts are not, by default, meant to interrupt a short circuit. Instead, contacts either complete or interrupt a circuit based on a secondary, low voltage control power source. Electrical Contact Manufacturers
Modison is a leading electrical contact manufacturers facility in Mumbai that finds wide application in several industries. Modison is the only company globally manufacturing electrical contact materials and finished contacts for low, medium and high tension switch gear industry under one roof starting from silver refining to producing all the contact materials ( Ag Alloys, CuCr, CuCrZr, ETP, OFC, Cu-Ag 0.1%, CuNi2Si etc. ) by powder metallurgy or by melting and alloying – all carried out in house.
With a commitment to maintain high level of quality Modison is having an in-house R&D dedicated team to develop and manufacture products using the best available technology and equipment for ensuring continual improvements in productivity, cost reduction and development of defect-free products.
