“Defeating climate change is the ultimate boss battle” -Elong Musc
Growing up in California, us adolescents have had an uncomfortably intimate relationship with climate change. In school, we learned that greenhouse gases like CO2 cause global warming at the same time we learned the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Every autumn, we see posts of global warming-influenced droughts making hotter and drier fire seasons, making us wonder if the Santa Ana winds will bring the next Camp Fire to our doorsteps. Despite our close relationship with climate change, most of us don’t give it a second thought in our daily routine. Who cares about the Earth when you have 5 projects to work on and mountains of homework right? Well, us adolescents need to care. We will be dealing with the effects of climate change for a larger proportion of our lives than our all previous generations despite not being the ones who polluted the Earth. It’s unfair and it’s stupid, but it’s the sad reality that we live in. Fortunately, there are lots of high-impact but minimal-effort actions even us adolescents can do to slow down global warming. With these minor tweaks in daily activities, we can live practically our same lives while heading towards a future with less greenhouse gases. Check out the rest of my blog to find out what you can do to #slowdownCO2!
