Sardinella Tawilis (Freshwater Sardinella) or “Tawilis” is the world’s first and only freshwater sardine. A native to Lake Taal (Philippines), it’s a favorite of locals and tourists alike. However, due to overfishing, water degradation and the introduction of non-native invasive fish this species has become scarce and on the brink of extinction.
