When it comes to characters like Joseph and Mary I think people have forgotten that you can be critical of something and still enjoy it. People have flocked to the self righteousness of black and white thinking. It gives them the false security of being right, even when opinions can't be quantified in such a way. I can write a whole book on why Joseph Christiansen is an asshole but still love the character. Making a critical analysis =/= to inherently hating something.
