Glad to see I am not alone in this sentiment. Every time I hear a Black person compare themselves to some other famous White person, ugggh! For example, if a beautiful Black model or actress says, “I’m the Black Marilyn Monroe!” It may seem either harmless or showing respect to someone you look up to. There is nothing wrong with that but the majority of the time it’s not. For those who read between the lines, it says: I am the POOR PERSON’S version of the example I have just given. I do not have enough faith in myself and my abilities to stand on my own. I am actually saying I am an inferior product, a knockoff, a bootleg, but I’ll do since the real thing isn’t around. That’s like a person who loves Burger King but all they have access to at that moment is the corner bodega that just happens to make a burger that you could make yourself! Wow!
