Extra City Kunsthal visit

Good afternoon!
Before heading to class in a little while I want to give a brief impression of my visit to the Extra City Kunsthal last week.
Pretty much out of the direction in Berchem, the Extra City Kunsthal is located in a bright and spacious industrial building. Its vast space is mostly attributed to contemporary art such as a recording of a performance on a television screen, a large installation in the central hall and an experimental film in a pitch-dark room. It is therefore very different content than our exposition of the Montevideo archive and much larger than M HKA’s Inbox, but still inspirational for my ideas about the exhibition.
These are some of my current remarks and ideas about our exposition:
- The exposition space is rather small, so no great video screenings or large installations are possible. - With such a big archive we probably are forced to make use of the ‘traditional’ glass case. - To make the exposition stand out between the other exhibitions at the M HKA, and make it versatile and interesting we have to look for other things to display or show. I am thinking of interviews, video materials, art works and texts. - We have to make sure everyone concerned is represented well, transparent and honorable. How are we going to achieve this in this limited space with the means to our disposition? - How are we going to convey the spirit of the warehouse in which Montevideo was located in M HKA? - How can we simultaneously represent the memory, impact and relevance of the Montevideo to the ones who were attached to it at that time and the contemporary museum visitor?
These are just a couple of thoughts I have right now, but I will definitely get even more inspired by our class this afternoon in which we will have a guest presentation by contemporary art and architecture curator Francesco Garutti.
