historical fashion polls "by request" celebration!
(the normal pinned post for the blog can be found here ☺️)
since I had quite the positive response on this poll proposing a little idea for a celebration, I thought I would go ahead and launch it! ☺️
we've reached a follower milestone on the blog, and while I don't like to get too caught up in numbers, I do so appreciate you all for being here and bringing your enthusiasm for historical fashion to my silly little polls, and I wanted to do something to celebrate and thank you all!
the way this event will work is that, if you would like to, you may send in a request for a specific type of garment you would like to see featured in a poll (examples below), then I will go through my sources and try to find something that most closely matches that request. I will then put it in the queue and it will act just like a normal poll, except I will put a little note below the poll block indicating what was requested
if you would like to send in a request for the event, please do so via my ask box! (it's the little button that says "the curator's letterbox"). I no longer check my DMs for this blog because it got very overwhelming, so please send it in as an ask! ideally, give me a year or a decade (or a time range of some sort), as well as something specific you'd like to see, such as a color, a design feature, a type of garment, etc. (or a combination of these!). just for some hypothetical examples drawn from garments that have appeared on the blog: "a 1870s gown with roses" or "a 1960s trousers look that features purple"
because we're doing this via asks, you're welcome to send in requests on anon! I will then just indicate on the poll that it was sent in by anon. if the request is not on anon (and you don't indicate otherwise) I will tag you in the poll so that you can see it when it emerges from the queue! and, again, unless requested otherwise, I will put the basic descriptors of your request in the poll itself so that other folks can see what was requested (and whether or not I've done an adequate job fulfilling the request 😅)
because it takes me so much longer to comb through historical portraiture, I will be limiting myself to fashion plates and other similar images, meaning I will necessarily need to limit the time range that can be requested to the late 1700s through the 1980s. however, for this event specifically, I might be willing to do some requests from the 1990s and early 2000s, just for fun!
it is possible that I may not be able to find something that fits your request 😔 in this case, I will do my best to get as close as I can, but ultimately my sources are limited to what I can access digitally, so there may end up being some requests that are out of the range of what I can source
unlike many of the other events on the blog, this one won't really change the way the blog functions on a day-to-day basis (the only thing that will be different is that some of the polls will have an additional note indicating that they were by request and what was requested). therefore, I think I'm going to open up requests for pretty much the whole summer (now until mid-august) and I will get to them as I have time and add them to the queue. I'll make a post when I'm officially closing requests (but I'm guessing it will be mid-august, since that's when I'm taking my prelim exams), and until then I will just fulfill them as I can! ☺️
as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, and I really hope this can be a fun little event for everyone! ☺️💖
