The chain coffee store backlash continues in London. Stylish artisan coffee places are going way beyond just serving the black stuff to stressed out commuters. To stand out, they’re hosting art exhibitions, coffee making masterclasses and of course serving great food.
Here’s Curators Coffee Studio in Cullum Street EC3 where the coffee’s the star but the machine’s not far behind: this teale coloured monster is a La Marzocco ‘Strada’ apparently. Like many others, CCS host coffee tasting sessions on Sundays, host art exhibitions, curate weird and wonderful types of coffee (magic mushroom anyone?) and run classes to brew your own caffeine experience. Looks like everyone’s a curator these days.
A more austere, stripped back version is Association nearby (Aldgate). Reflecting its previous use as an old tea warehouse and tucked away in the City, it’s actually a surprisingly relaxing place to sup a latte and pretend you’re in an Edward Hopper painting.
