TODAY'S FACT IS

Did you know that the Chestnut Weevil (Curculio elephas) is a big pest of European chestnut? They use their long snoot like a drill to get into the developing chestnut casing, lays her eggs, then covers the hole with frass and excrement. The larvae hatch after the nut has fallen and they must eat their way out of the fruit and into the ground to develop into adulthood.
