McCoy accepts his hand and shakes it warmly. Regardless of whatever inter-dimensional catastrophe has caused this particular meeting, it’s only polite.
His grin settles in to an amused smile as he gives an appreciative nod to his counterpart’s counterargument. “A fair point - forgive me if I’ve been presumptuous. Although…” McCoy releases Leonard’s hand and brings his to his chin in contemplation. “You seem… younger. That doesn’t necessarily mean I was first, mind, but anyway…”
His gaze drops from the man’s eyes to continue his mental comparison. A ring - different, but on the same finger. Interesting. Maybe they aren’t so different. At least, not as different as he’s seen in another reality.
“What drew you to the endless void so early, then?” he asks. After a beat, he offers his assumption - “Jocelyn?”
Leonard’s grin flickers. That’s almost certainly what it means, and meeting another version of himself is far too exciting for the fine details to matter, anyhow. They’re from separate realities with different lives, memories, probably preferences. It’s his greatest hope that the opportunity to sit around for awhile and shoot the shit is not too much to ask for.
At the mention of his ex, one brow shoots up, and he presses his lips together in a thin line. It doesn’t hurt anymore - hasn’t, for a long time - but he hadn’t even considered her role in this convoluted equation.
“Oh yeah,” he sighs, “You bet.” Then, because he can’t possibly resist, or risk not knowing about any other potential version of her, “Jo...?”
